BEARS AND BEES, 2013

spray-paint, 6 x 11 m

Wuppertal, Germany

"I had to drive the sultan's bees to the pasture every morning, keep them there all day long and then drive them back to their hives in the evening. One evening I missed a bee, but immediately realized that two bears had attacked it and wanted to tear it apart for its honey. Since I had no other weapon in my hands than the silver axe, which is the hallmark of the Sultan's gardeners and farm workers, I threw it at the two robbers with the intention of scaring them away. I really set the poor bee free, but by an unfortunate, too strong swing of my arm the axe flew up and did not stop rising until it fell down on the moon."
