POLICE HIDING, 2016

Clashes between various New York gangs sometimes took on forms that made it unpalatable for law enforcement officials to intervene. At times, gangs set up heavy military ordnance in the streets, whereupon the police wisely retreated, and the ongoing fighting could only be stopped by the military. It is reported that in the face of such violence, a number of police officers preferred to hide in the rundown New York tenements and held out there there till the street fighting ended.
