"Dr. Selwyn pulled a bell pull mounted to the right of the fireplace parapet. Almost without delay, as if she had been waiting outside in the corridor for the signal, Aileen came in with a little cart on which the projector was set up. The large Ormolu clock on the mantelpiece and the Meissen figures, a pair of shepherds and a colorfully dressed Moor with twisted eyes, were moved aside, and the canvas stretched on a wooden frame, which Aileen had still brought in, was placed in front of the mirror."
