"Mexico, D.E, March 16, 1995, to the supervisor [...].

It is very exciting here at the moment. Hard to believe what political machinations come to the surface. [...]

Salinas was a sophisticated gang that used political power for its own purposes. It enriched itself at the expense of the population. Raul Salinas, brother of the ex-president, in his function as director of the state-owned basic food supply company CONASUPO, diverted thousands of tons of corn, a vital foodstuff here, into the hands of a tortilla producer instead of to the farmers. Salinas provided the farmers with the cheapest pig fattening corn from the USA. In addition to corn, he has also done business in beans, sugar and powdered milk. Raul is at least now behind bars, suspected of having planned the murder of his ex-brother-in-law Massieu, PRI chairman at the time of the murder. Carlos Salinas has absconded to the U.S., allegedly not into exile, but probably so."
