In particular, he spent weeks in Meiringen and Oberaar, where he had met a mountain guide named Johannes Naegli, who was sixty-five years old at the time and to whom he was very attached from the beginning. He had been everywhere with Naegli, on the Zinggenstock, the Scheuchzerhorn and the Rosenhorn, the Luteraarhorn, the Schreckhorn and the Ewigschneehorn, and he had never in his life, neither before nor later, felt as comfortable as he did then in the company of this man."
