SHORT HOP, 2014

ink painting on watercolor paper, digital color

100 x 84 cm

"I looked back, and was almost petrified, when I caught sight of a monstrous lion coming straight at me, and not indistinctly letting me know that he graciously deigned to make my poor corpse his breakfast, without even asking my consent. My shotgun was loaded only with hare shot. Neither time nor my confusion allowed me to think long.

But I decided to fire at the beast, hoping to frighten it, perhaps even wound it. However, since I did not even wait in fear until the lion came to shoot at me, it was enraged by this and now came at me in all ferocity. More out of instinct than out of rational consideration I tried to escape from an impossibility. I turn around, and – as often as I think of it, a cold shiver still runs over my body – a few steps from me stands a hideous crocodile, which already opened its jaws terribly to devour me."
